Last November, I wanted to make my niece something for her birthday, so I asked my sister for ideas. She said a quilt would be nice. Well, I too thought that was a nice idea, but for one had trouble finding fabric that I just loved for it, and second didn’t have much time because of the coming holidays. So, I kept looking and found that my favorite designer, Sarah Jane, had the perfect fabric line coming, Wee Wander. It was to be released in January, so I told my sister I would wait until then to make the quilt. January came and went and I didn’t get anything ordered or made. I’m sure my sister thought I had just forgotten or decided not to make the quilt. I hadn’t forgotten though.
In mid March, I was able to order fabric and I found this kit on etsy that was perfect. The tutorial is free on her website so really you could interchange any fabrics that you wanted to for the squares. I will say that having it all cut out and ready was very nice though! The tutorial was very easy to follow and the quilt turned out so beautifully that I didn’t want to send it. But, I made myself do it and my niece loves her new quilt. It is sized for a toddler bed (~40×45″) and later can be a throw. I really like using the quilts that size for cuddling up on the couch here.
I even attached one of my shop tags and washed the quilt before sending it to her. When I first finished it it seemed rather puffy and I wanted to tame it down a little before sending it. :)
I will definitely use this pattern/tutorial again and substitute other fabrics. I love the chevron pattern and it turns out so pretty and crisp. Of course, I notice all the little mistakes and imperfections in the quilt, but hopefully you won’t! Now, I’m off to finish up some felt superhero masks for my youngest’s birthday party this weekend. Always working on something here!
